HOW DOES BIOSUBSTANCE® ENHANCE SOILS AND HORTICULTURES

  • Most important characteristic of Biosubstance® is its inability to hold water. It can absorb water almost equal to its own weight.
  • The special formula of Biosubstance® has an affect similar to antifreeze in cars and protects all the seeds, seedlings and roots in cultures grown in soil or without soil, against frost (this property does not exist in perlite products).
  • It is possible to cover the top of soil up to 5 cm using special Biosubstance® products without even needing mix them. This in turn helps to save from irrigation up to 50% depending on the climatic and regional conditions and this reduction in water consumption can even increase up to 70% in very dry regions (the test we have conducted is with flower pots).
  • Various Biosubstance® types, mixed with the soil of the related media provides the most ideal soil ratio (25% water, 25% air, 44% solid matter, 6% organic matter).
  • Usually clayey soils are kept at the ideal soil ratio by ploughing it with tractor. On the other hand, soils mixed with Biosubstance® may not even require ploughing of the soil. This property always protects the plants against water stress.
  • Water absorbed by Biosubstance® vaporizes very slowly.
  • Depending on the percentage of the Biosubstance® applied to an area, saving is possible from cost of water consumed, amount depending on the climate and dry weather conditions.
  • Biosubstance® increases infiltration and reduces evaporation of water, providing economy in irrigation.
  • Certain Biosubstance® products, which has gone under a stabilization treatment, do not contain seeds of foreign weeds or diseases.
  • Since certain undesired soluble ions are at negligible levels, the product will not cause any problem in terms of salinity and alkaline nature.
  • Enables health circulation of soil gases generated through metabolism of plants.
  • Since most of the Biosubstance® products are neutral in structure (pH= 6.0-7.0), due to their low chemical buffering characteristics, they regulate the pH of the medium readily. However, it is also possible to produce special media for plants with low pH, when requested.
  • It has low heat conductivity, thus minimizes the damage to the plants caused by daily temperature variations.
  • In agriculture without soil, since its structure does not change upon sterilization, it is possible to use the product for a period of five sequential years. It enabled to harvest plant products earlier than usual. Also prevents damages and losses in roots of seedlings.
  • Porosity is over 70% in most of our products.
  • In the Biosubstance® products we have developed, even if the product is fully saturated with water, it still contains air, which prevents air deficiency.
  • The roots of the plant migrate into the pores of Biosubstance® and thus consumes the nutrients and water absorbed in Biosubstance®, at a slow rate.
  • Finally Biosubstance® do not emit nutrients to the environment and thus do not pollute underground waters with these nutrients.
  • When compared to other media regulating substances, Biosubstance® is a more lasting product that can remain in the soil for a period of at least 5 years even in areas with high level of tractor activity. On the other hand, since perlite is fractured easily, it may require to be replaced every year.
  • Most of the products used in producing Biosubstance® are 100% natural.
    • BIOSUBSTANCE® IN SOIL BASED HORTICULTURES

  • In a culture with soil Biosubstance® is used as a soil regulator or for reducing water loss, depending on the needs of the soil.
  • Biosubstance® products are good soil regulators and is a material with high useful water capacity, excess dissolved mineral variation and heat capacity, low salt content and heat conduction.
  • When Biosubstance® products are mixed with heavy and sticky soil, it prevents cracking, ponding, swelling and shrinkage, due to the drainage and aeration capability of the product.
  • When used in greenhouses as soil regulator, the Biosubstance® products improves the water holding capability of the soil and usefulness of nutrients.
  • In greenhouse soil, physical properties are more important than chemical properties. It is possible to achieve the desired physical characteristics by using Biosubstance® products. Thus, in greenhouse where irrigation is done by absorption from the base or by dripping, the water consumption can be reduced by 50% by spreading large grained Biosubstance® over the soil, to form a layer of thickness 4-5 cm.

    WHY BIOSUBSTANCE® FOR HORTICULTURE

  • Biosubstance® products provides improved drainage and aeration.
  • Sterilized type of products do not include materials that can harm the plant biologically or chemically.
  • Water soluble harmful salt content is low
  • Generally, the pH of the products is neutral and is between 6-7, and plant based products with lower pH can be produced upon request on some products.
  • We have products of long life cycle, that are physically and chemically homogenous in structure and do not degenerate with time.
  • Has the capability to hold the water and nutrients needed by the plant.
  • While it contains heavier mixtures when compared with perlite, it is a durable and strong material of long life cycle. Most important fact is that, perlite is a synthetic material while Biosubstance® is a natural material.
  • It is a recyclable material that can be used a few times.
  • When Biosubstance® is used, it can be possible to reduce problems caused by soil related diseases and pests as well as weeds.

    • WHY BIOSUBSTANCE® FOR HYDROPHONIC SYSTEMS

    In recent years hydrophonic systems are being preferred in agriculture to evade problems encountered with overused greenhouse soil (glass culture soil). Many countries abroad are using hydrophonic agriculture system at a rate up to 95%. While it is possible to use Biosubstance® alone in these applications, it is also possible to mix other components like peat, sand, tree barks etc.

    It is possible to use Biosubstance® products in the following media:

    2. Box-Bag-Pot Culture

  • In hydrophonic culture a black plastic sheet is used to cover the greenhouse soil and then the Biosubstance® products or perlite mixed Biosubstance® composite is spread over this sheet at a thickness of 10-15 cm and the seedlings are planted over this layer at certain intervals.
  • The water and nutrient need of the plants is met by irrigation done using nutrient solutions. Biosubstance® has the capability to trap the nutrient solutions used for this area and thus the water cycle periods are extended in the greenhouses. Since water losses caused seeping and evaporating reduced, considerable economic savings are made in terms of power and water.
  • Another method is to grow the plants in bags of 5-10 liter volume, filled with Biosubstance® or a mixture using another material and Biosubstance®. This growth method is very easy. Because all work needed to grow the plants is to line up these bags again over a black plastic sheet used to cover the soil and to meet the water and nutrient needs of these plants by using nutrient solutions.
  • Unlike other growth media, the Biosubstance® products do not require to be renewed annually, and thus most of the expense and workmanship like processing, washing, disinfecting and fertilizing works, typical in a greenhouse are no longer required.
  • On the other hand, using mineral fertilizers, compost residues in mixing with Biosubstance® helps in disposal of various wastes. It is possible to grow ornamental plants, vegetables and fruit with the growth material using such material.
    • BIOSUBSTANCE® SUBSTRATE FOR GERMINATING SEEDLING CULTIVATION IN HORTICULTURE AND SOILLESS CULTIVATION

  • Due to its specific characteristics, it is possible to use Biosubstance® products as growth regulator, as an additive in seedling mixture or as growth media in soilless cultivation, with success.
  • Biosubstance® is a very convenient medium for germination process of vegetables and flowers. Generally humidified Biosubstance® products are used to fill the pots or cases prepared for this purpose.
  • When delivering the seedlings removed to the plastic bags, unlike other growth media, Biosubstance® products keep all roots together and thus the seedlings are delivered without harming the roots.
  • Again the plastic bags may be filled with Biosubstance® -Peat mixture, mixed at a rate of 1:1 or only Biosubstance®. The decision here is made more by aesthetic preferences.
  • Since the product is sterile and preserves its characteristics, it is possible to use it for years.

    • BIOSUBSTANCE® SUBSTRATE FOR ROOTING IN HORTICULTURE AND SOILLESS CULTIVATION

  • Biosubstance® products can either be used alone or by mixing with other substrates and used successfully in growing roots of flower, vegetable and fruit cuttings.
  • Even in cases where stratification is used, it is possible to fill the cases with Biosubstance® products. It is sufficient for this purpose to place the shooting in the humid Biosubstance® products and keep the Biosubstance® humid all the time.
  • In using Biosubstance® products for growing roots, it is possible to mix it at rate of 1:1 to 9:1 with an organic material. A healthier root can be grown in Biosubstance® containing large grains of pumice stone, when using it for media to grow roots.
  • While an excellent rooting media can be obtained using Biosubstance® products, it is possible to profit by at least eliminating the need to buy vegetable seeds for one term, by growing seedlings obtained for example from offshoots of tomatoes and cucumbers.
    • BIOSUBSTANCE® FOR LAWN AREA AND HORTICULTURE

  • The Biosubstance® products produces for this area are unmatched soil regulators for areas like gardens, parks, football and golf courts, sports tracks.
  • Grass in soil compressed by pressure or external factors usually weakens and even be destroyed. When Biosubstance® products are used for grass, besides extended its life, problems like mudding, ponding, compacting or pressing are eliminated.
  • When Biosubstance® is used, the leaf area of the grass expands, leaf and root number increases. Compacting in areas by walking decreases almost by 50%.
  • When these products are used, no variation is required in grass application regime.
  • In soil areas, it is possible to improve the elasticity of soil and obtain a soft ground by using Biosubstance® produced specifically for this purpose under the top layer.
